A group of lawmakers called on President Hassan Rouhani for a strong reaction to recent anti-Tehran sanctions imposed by Washington, describing them as new breaches of the July 2015 nuclear deal between Iran and world powers known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action. Washington’s imposition of new sanctions, repeated breaches of JCPOA provisions and disruption of Iran’s banking and financial transactions, on the one hand, and the continuous concern expressed by the Leader of Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, on the other, raise the question as to why no decisive action is taken by the Committee to Monitor the Implementation of the JCPOA, the legislators said in a note of caution addressed to the president on Tuesday, Tasnim News Agency reported.

“The agreement is not supposed to be unilateral,” they said, calling on the Rouhani administration to show “an unequivocal reaction” and take preventive measures and even halt the implementation of the nuclear deal in case of repetition of such breaches by the US.

On Saturday, Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs Seyyed Abbas Araqchi had described as “insufficient” the measures adopted by the United States to facilitate the full implementation of JCPOA.
