The legislature is ready to use its mandate to help the government jumpstart the stagnant economy by boosting domestic production in line with the principles of the Resistance Economy, the parliamentary speaker said.
"Today Iran has great deterrent power," Ali Larijani added, but noted that its "inefficient economy" represents a "weak spot."
"The Leader of the Islamic Revolution has correctly described the building of a self-developing national economy as the country's top priority, which can be achieved by pursuing the Resistance Economy," he was quoted as saying by ICANA in his address to an open session of the parliament on Sunday.
The Resistance Economy, outlined by the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, is aimed at weaning the national economy off oil revenues by bolstering domestic production.
"The Majlis regards this approach as the only solution to the country's problems and has passed significant laws in recent years to help improve the business climate and provide the government with facilities for the implementation of the Resistance Economy," he said.
Larijani noted that initiatives will be included in the budget bill for the current Iranian year, which started on March 20, to encourage production and exports.
