Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei warned about attempts to undermine revolutionary thinking and values in theological schools.

Theological schools played a pivotal role in the popular movement leading to the 1979 Islamic Revolution that ended the rule of the US-backed monarchical dictatorship.

“Theological schools should remain a revolutionary institution and the cradle of the revolution and this can be ensured only through prudent thinking and meticulous planning,” Ayatollah Khamenei was quoted as saying by IRNA in a meeting with teachers and students of Qom Seminary on Tuesday.

“If theological schools cease to be revolutionary, the establishment will be subject to a danger of deviation from the revolution,” he cautioned.

Elaborating on ways of countering anti-revolution attempts, the Leader said, “Sometimes the principles of the revolution are directly challenged, but other times there is an indirect challenge to the fundamentals and ideological basis of the revolution, which requires us to be cautious.

“That is why I have repeatedly underscored the need for vigilance against the global arrogance and the United States.”

The Leader called on officials of Qom theological schools to step up efforts and plans to promote revolutionary principles among theological students.

Qom Theological School is Iran’s largest established in 1922 by Grand Ayatollah Abdul-Karim Haeri Yazdi.
