Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev called for closer cooperation between Azeri and Iranian border security forces against the common threats facing the two neighbors. The age-old and close interaction between border police forces of Azerbaijan and Iran should develop faster than before, Aliyev said in a meeting with Commander of Iran’s Border Police Lieutenant General Qasem Rezaei in Baku on Friday, Tasnim News Agency reported. He stressed that the two countries’ police forces should keep such a close watch on the borders that nothing would upset security along the joint border. Aliyev also made a reference to his recent visit to Iran and the signing of 12 agreements in the trip, noting that bilateral ties are expanding rapidly in different areas. The Iranian commander emphasized the significance of reciprocal visits by Iranian and Azeri high-ranking officials to forge stronger cooperation between their border security forces.

Rezaei highlighted Iran’s considerable efforts to fight drug trafficking to save the youth in all regional countries.
