Berlin Seeks to Defuse Tehran-Riyadh Tensions

German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier will travel to the UAE and Oman in the coming days with the aim of helping defuse tensions between Iran and Saudi Arabia, the deputy spokesperson for the German Foreign Ministry said. Sawsan Chebli also told IRNA on Friday Berlin has always tried to prevent Tehran-Riyadh tensions from negatively affecting international efforts to resolve the Syria crisis. Chebli said the two regional powers have played "constructive roles" in advancing Syria peace efforts and securing the recent cessation of hostilities.
