Iraqi Parliament Speaker Salim al-Jabouri stressed that his country needs the assistance of neighboring countries, especially Iran, in the ongoing fight against terrorist groups. “We need the help of our neighbors, Iran in particular, in the campaign against terrorism,” Jabouri said in a meeting with Iran’s Ambassador to Iraq Hassan Danaeifar in Baghdad on Friday, Fars News Agency reported. Danaeifar reiterated that Iraq, Syria, Iran and Russia are currently cooperating in the fight against the self-styled Islamic State militant group, but said his country will boost cooperation and coordination whenever it feels necessary. Mohsen Hakim, political advisor to the head of the Islamic Supreme Council of Iraq, last November revealed that his country, along with Iran, Russia and Syria, had set up an information exchange center to pave the way for the formation of a quadrilateral operations room in the campaign against terrorism. Iran, Syria and Iraq have also signed several defense cooperation agreements based on which Tehran gives consultations to Damascus and Baghdad in the fight against terrorist groups.
