JCPOA Vital for Regional Security

European Union foreign policy chief, Federica Mogherini, said the recent implementation of the nuclear agreement between Tehran and world powers is the key to regional peace and stability. The Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, as the deal is formally known, is crucial for non-proliferation of nuclear weapons and regional security, and it should also be considered a potential starting point, Mogherini said in an interview with Trend News Agency published on Sunday. Referring to her upcoming visit to Tehran scheduled for spring, Mogherini said, “There is common willingness [between EU and Tehran] to have regular political dialogue and restore close economic ties. “I’m sure that such renewed engagement will not only benefit the citizens of Iran and our European Union, but the positive spillovers can also reach the entire region—starting from Iran’s neighbors, of course,” she said.
