Mohamed ElBaradei, former director general of the International Atomic Energy Agency, advised Arab governments to de-escalate tensions with Iran and go ahead with consultations with the country on regional issues.

In a recent post on his Twitter account, the Egyptian politician hoped that Arabs could let wisdom govern their decision-making to prevent destructive conflicts, IRNA reported.

ElBaradei called on Arab governments to opt for the peaceful settlement of disputes and avoid harmful clashes.

He said Arab governments should hold dialogue with Iran to help settle regional disputes and lay down the foundation for promotion of regional security.

ElBaradei also criticized Arabs for forgetting the Palestinian issue, encouraging them not to let the plight of the Palestinians be marginalized.

Last month, following the implementation of the nuclear deal between Iran and major powers, the veteran Egyptian diplomat said dialogue and respect are best ways of resolving international disputes.

ElBaradei, who led the IAEA from 1997 to 2009, won the Noble Peace Prize in 2005.
