Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said ties between Tehran and the European Union have entered a “new stage” after the recent nuclear deal.

Speaking in a meeting on Tuesday with President of the European Parliament Martin Schulz in Brussels, Zarif underscored the necessity of continuing parliamentary cooperation between Iran and the EU, Tasnim News Agency reported.

“In the near future, the grounds for mutual parliamentary cooperation will be discussed in a visit by the chairman of Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Commission [Alaeddin Boroujerdi] to Brussels,” Zarif said.

The EP president described Middle East developments as “worrying”, saying that instability in the region would increase the number of displaced people and boost their immigration to Europe.

Schulz also pointed to Zarif’s visit to Belgium and welcomed enhancement of ties between Iran and the EU.
