Defense Minister Hossein Dehqan underlined that Tehran and Moscow are determined to promote mutual cooperation in defense areas.

Speaking to reporters on arrival in Moscow on Monday, Lieutenant General Dehqan said Iran and Russia are making efforts to deepen defense relations and increase strategic cooperation, according to Tasnim News Agency. He highlighted the objectives of his trip to Moscow, saying that reviewing past agreements between the two countries and the issue of Syria would be discussed in his meetings with Russian officials.

The defense minister pointed to recent attempts by regional countries to support terrorists in Syria and said Iran’s clear stance on the conflict is to counter terrorism, stop foreign intervention and help Syrian people determine their own fate.

Leading a high-ranking defense delegation, Dehqan was officially received by Russia’s Deputy Chief of Staff Lieutenant-General Igor Makushev at Vnukovo International Airport.

The visit comes at the official invitation of Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu.
