The deputy army commander has said the country’s western borders are “completely secure”.
Army forces are deployed along western borders to protect security, Brigadier General Kiumars Heydari told reporters on Tuesday. Iran shares borders with Iraq and Turkey to the west. Military officials have said the armed forces are ready to deal with any possible threat posed by militants of Islamic State (IS) who are operating in Iraq. Elsewhere, Heydari said the army is scheduled to stage a military exercise in coming weeks, adding the force also plans to hold a specialized drone drill in the near future.
