Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei has underscored the need for maintaining unity among all Muslim countries in the face of enemy plots aimed at creating a rift in the Islamic Ummah.

"Enemies are seeking to create a barrier between Iran and the Muslim world," IRNA quoted him as saying on Tuesday in a meeting with Hajj officials in Tehran.

Ayatollah Khamenei also said promoting "Islamic unity" is the formal and public policy of the Islamic Republic. The Leader described the Hajj pilgrimage as an opportunity that must be seized to foil enemy plots, which are hatched to separate Iran from the rest of the Muslim world. Ayatollah Khamenei also warned of false enemy propaganda aimed at "spreading illusions" about Iran and Shiite Islam. The annual pilgrimage of Hajj is one of the world's largest gatherings which brings Muslims together from a variety of nationalities, races and sects. Sixty four thousand Iranians went on the Hajj pilgrimage this year.
