Montenegro’s Foreign Minister Igor Luksic voiced his country’s willingness to broaden bilateral ties with Iran.

“I express my country’s readiness to develop and deepen cooperation with the Islamic Republic of Iran,” Luksic said in a message to his Iranian counterpart Mohammad Javad Zarif on Friday, according to Fars News Agency. He congratulated Zarif on the recent implementation of the nuclear deal and said, “I am confident that this will secure your country’s prosperity and interests.”

Luksic said he is ready to cooperate with Zarif to continue and strengthen friendly ties between Tehran and Podgorica.

In relevant remarks last February, Advisor to Montenegro President for Foreign Affairs Dragisa Burzan voiced his country’s determination to expand relations with Tehran, especially in economic and cultural spheres. “We consider Iran our good friend and parallel with Iran’s good cultural activities in Montenegro, we can have good cooperation in economic field,” he said in a meeting with Iranian non-resident ambassador in Podgorica, Majid Fahimpour.
