The Principlist Coalition Council, a body formed to organize the electoral efforts of conservative parties, is getting close to its list of favored candidates for the February 26 Majils elections, said the spokesman.

Speaking in Tehran late Thursday, Gholamali Haddad-Adel said the final list of the coalition will be published “within one or two days”, IRNA reported.

“Thanks to a sense of unity among principlist factions, we got close to releasing our list,” he said.

Haddad-Adel noted that principlists are trying to publish a list that will gains “the trust of Iranian people”.

On Friday, chairman of the council’s election office, Alireza Zakani, said a short list of nearly 70 nominees has been compiled for Tehran Province.

Zakani explained that in the process of selecting the candidates, the opinions of principlist parties, groups, lawmakers and candidates themselves have been considered.

A record number of 12,123 individuals registered for the upcoming Majlis elections during the December 17-23 signup period, where Tehran Province registered 2,477 candidates.

There are 290 seats in the Majlis, distributed between 207 electoral districts. With 30 seats, Tehran has the largest delegation of any district.

The final list of qualified candidates will be released by the Guardians Council, which is tasked with supervising the election on February 17 and they can canvas for votes from February 18 to 24.
