A top adviser to the Leader of Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei will pay an official four-day visit to Moscow next week to hold talks with senior Russian officials.

Ali Akbar Velayati, the adviser on international affairs, will kick off his trip on February 1 and plans to discuss the latest mutual and regional developments with the Kremlin officials. He will also address a press conference, according to Press TV.

Velayati paid a visit to Moscow in January 2015 as a special envoy of President Hassan Rouhani and submitted the Iranian president’s message to his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin.

During Velayati’s meeting with Putin, the two sides agreed on efforts for promoting Iran’s observer status at Shanghai Cooperation Organization. They also discussed bilateral relations in political and economic fields.

Iran and Russia have both thrown their support behind Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in Damascus’ war with foreign-backed militants.

Moscow and Tehran reject any foreign interference in the war-hit country’s affairs, declaring that only the Syrian people have the right to decide their country’s fate.
