The main phase of a massive exercise by the Iranian Navy is to kick off today in the country’s southern waters, stretching over an area from east of the Strait of Hormuz to the northern parts of the Indian Ocean. “The main and tactical stage of the wargame, code-named Velayat 94, will begin tomorrow morning,” Navy Commander Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari said at a press conference in the southeastern city of Konarak on Tuesday, Tasnim News Agency reported. “The exercise will cover an area of around 3 million square kilometers down to the 10th parallel north in the Indian Ocean,” he said. “A range of missiles and torpedoes will be launched during the drill. Submarines, missile-launching warships, missile units, electronic warfare units and commando forces will carry out various missions in the drill. According to Sayyari, the navy has warned foreign forces to leave the wargame zone. The navy usually employs a series of latest military equipment in its drills.
