Defense Minister Lieutenant General Hossein Dehqan on Tuesday underlined the necessity of Pakistan paying greater attention to ensure security along the two neighboring countries’ borders.

Speaking at a meeting with the visiting Pakistani Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif in Tehran, Dehqan referred to the huge losses inflicted on the region due to the spread of terrorism, noting that the “inauspicious phenomenon” can be defeated through unity, cooperation and the joint efforts of regional countries, Tasnim News Agency reported.

General Raheel Sharif was accompanying Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif during his visit to Tehran.

Dehqan said Tehran attaches great importance to its ties with Islamabad.

Sharif said he welcomes expansion of defense, military and security cooperation with Iran, and called for acceleration of the process of strengthening ties.

With regard to border security, Dehqan said, “We are committed to ensuring the security of our borders with the Islamic Republic of Iran.”
