Response to US Sanctions Under Consideration

Tehran is studying the new sanctions imposed by the United States on Iran despite the recent implementation of the nuclear deal, noting that Tehran will show an appropriate reaction, a deputy foreign minister announced on Tuesday.

“The committee for monitoring the implementation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action [as the nuclear deal is formally called] is currently studying the new sanctions that the US Treasury Department imposed against Iran’s missile program,” Majid Takht-Ravanchi told reporters in Tehran, Tasnim News Agency reported.

“Iran would react if these sanctions violate the nuclear deal, whose implementation started late Saturday,” he said.

The Treasury Department on Sunday imposed fresh financial sanctions over Iran’s missile program, which Tehran insists is rightful and aimed at enhancing the country’s defense and deterrence capabilities.

Washington imposed sanctions on 11 companies and individuals for assisting Iran’s ballistic missile program, the Treasury Department said.

The new sanctions came hours after the termination of anti-Tehran sanctions following the confirmation by the International Atomic Energy Agency that Tehran had made good on its commitments under the JCPOA.
