Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and Iranian Interior Minister Abdolreza Rahmani Fazli in a Tuesday meeting in Damascus condemned moves by certain sides aimed at impeding the ongoing talks to resolve the crisis in war-torn Syria. They stressed that certain international and regional states are trying to hinder the efforts aimed at fighting terrorism and finding a peaceful solution to the Syrian crisis, Tasnim News Agency reported. Assad praised Tehran’s stances in support of the Syrian campaign against terror and stressed that such “friendly states” as Iran and Russia have played a significant role in reinforcing Syria’s resistance in the past five years and its victories in waging decisive wars against terrorism. “The current war against Syria has caused friendly ties between the two countries [Iran and Syria] to be reinforced more than ever,” the Syrian president added. Fazli underscored the resolve of Iran’s leadership, government and nation for standing by Syria. Iran believes the Syrian nation has been engaged in a “tough global war” with terrorists and extremists, the minister noted, adding that the threat of terrorism and extremism has gone beyond the Syrian and regional borders.
