Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and his Indonesian counterpart Retno Marsudi discussed bilateral relations and regional developments.

Meeting in Tehran on Wednesday, they talked about the outcome of efforts to develop cooperation, in addition to the prospects of increasing exchanges.

Marsudi was also scheduled to meet President Hassan Rouhani to deliver a message of Indonesian President Joko Widodo regarding disputes between Iran and Saudi Arabia.

In an effort to mediate between Tehran and Riyadh whose relations became strained in recent weeks, Widodo has written letters to the leaders of both nations.

Marsudi said in Jakarta on Tuesday that she would personally deliver the letters to Rouhani and Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz.

The minister reiterated that Indonesia would remain neutral in the ongoing conflict.

"We are friendly with both Iran and Saudi Arabia," she said.

After the meeting with Rouhani, Marsudi is expected to leave for Saudi Arabia to meet the Saudi king and also deliver the message to him.
