Chinese Deputy FM to Visit

Chinese Deputy Foreign Minister Zhang Ming will visit Tehran in an effort to mediate between Iran and Saudi Arabia, after holding talks with Saudi officials in Riyadh who recently announced the breakdown of Iran relations.
China’s Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Hua Chunying told a daily news briefing on Thursday that China gives high importance to improvement of ties between the two major Middle Eastern states, IRNA reported.
Hua called on Iran and Saudi Arabia to exercise restraint and choose dialogue for solving disputes, wishing for increased stability, durable peace and improved relations in the Middle East.
“We hope that relations between the influential countries of the region will improve and the parties will uphold regional peace and stability,” she added.
Saudi Arabia severed diplomatic relations with Iran on Sunday following demonstrations held in front of the Saudi Embassy in Tehran and its consulate in the northeastern city of Mashhad to protest against Saudi execution of prominent Shia cleric Sheikh Nimr al-Nimr on Saturday.
