Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani pledged on Tuesday that the legislature will increase support for the country’s missile program by boosting the budget allocated for the industry in the next national development plan. During a visit to an Islamic Revolution Guards Corps missile defense base, Larijani admired the IRGC’s missile capabilities, describing the progress made in the field as the “most effective deterrence” against threats and a factor behind peace and security in Iran and the region, Tasnim News Agency reported. Larijani said the IRGC’s scientific and technological advances have unnerved the enemies. Back in June 2015, Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei outlined the general policies of the sixth five-year development plan (2016-21). On defense and security, the proclamation necessitated an increase in Iran’s defense capabilities at the level of a regional power to defend national interests by allocating at least 5% of the national budget to bolster the country’s defense capabilities.
