Vetting of Majlis Hopefuls to Start Soon

The process of vetting nominees for the upcoming parliamentary election by the Guardians Council will begin in the coming days, the spokesman of the Election Central Monitoring Committee announced on Sunday.
Speaking to Tasnim News Agency, Siamak Rahpeik added that members of the committee are making preparations for the process of vetting individuals who have registered in the parliamentary polls.
Nominees whose qualification is not approved can appeal and seek further investigation.
On December 25, Interior Ministry spokesperson, Hosseinali Amiri, said over 10,000 people have registered for the parliamentary elections due to be held on February 26.
According to Interior Minister Abdolreza Rahmani Fazli, the number of female applicants in this year’s election has risen by 3% compared to the previous term.
He said 20 Iranians belonging to religious minorities have signed up and that 73% of the applicants are under the age of 50.
Fazli noted that the final list of qualified candidates will be released on February 17.
