Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said the last hurdle to expanding cooperation between Tehran and Copenhagen will be cleared once the July nuclear deal with major powers takes full effect in the coming days and lead to removal of sanctions.

"The lifting of oppressive sanctions with the implementation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action [the official title of the nuclear accord] in the coming days will remove the last obstacle to cooperation," the top diplomat said in a joint press conference with his Danish counterpart Kristian Jensen in Tehran on Monday, Fars News Agency reported.

Leading a delegation of high-ranking political officials, Jensen is accompanied by representatives of Danish firms during a visit mainly aimed at building business ties.

"The longstanding relations between Iran and Denmark have seen ups and downs in recent years due to sanctions, and we are glad today that we see the significant presence of representatives of the [Danish] private sector in Iran, which can pave the way for banking and economic cooperation," Zarif said.

He also said increasing exchange of visits can help foster "mutual understanding."

Zarif noted that in the political domain, the campaign against extremism and terrorism and regional crises are topics that demand consultations.

Jensen said Danish companies specialized in the fields of energy, agriculture and transportation are ready to work with Iranian firms.

In view of the fact that the Implementation Day of the nuclear pact is approaching, "these companies have come to Iran to choose the country as a center of their activities in the region", he said.

Jensen noted that Iran enjoys "good potential, so we can develop cooperation to enhance ties and advance Iran's active and positive regional role."

The Danish foreign minister also met with the Chairman of Expediency Council Ayatollah Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani, Secretary of Supreme National Security Council Ali Shamkhani and Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani.
