A senior diplomat said world powers seek to hatch plots to harm Middle East countries, stressing that regional states need to adopt “smart” approaches to thwart such plots. Deputy Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian made the remark in a meeting with Chairman of Qatar National Human Rights Committee Ali bin Samikh Al Marri in Tehran on Tuesday, Press TV reported. He said the region is currently facing a “sensitive situation” and emphasized that foreigners intend to cause harm to Middle East nations that have been coexisting in peace and security for centuries. Amir-Abdollahian noted that Iran’s policy is based on expansion of relations with Persian Gulf littoral states and called for continued Tehran-Doha talks with the purpose of improving ties. “Iran stresses the need for strengthening relations with its neighbors based on the principles of good neighborliness and adopting smart approaches in the light of sensitive regional conditions,” he said. The Qatari human rights official said Iran has an important status in the region and vast cultural, scientific and economic capabilities. Marri added that Qatar is determined to bolster bilateral relations.
