Mideast Talks With Russia

Ambassador in Moscow Mehdi Sanaei and Russian President’s Special Envoy on Middle East Mikhail Bogdanov discussed regional crises, especially Syria, and ways to check extremism in the region in a meeting in Moscow on Tuesday. “The Islamic Republic of Iran will continue its efforts to help ensure the peaceful settlement of the Syrian crisis,” Sanaei was quoted as saying by Fars News Agency. The Iranian envoy pointed to the growing activities of terrorist groups in Syria and Iraq, and said, “Iran has always cautioned regional players to take action to promptly resolve the problem of extremism through cooperation and continuation of talks among different sides, because otherwise it will result in rising inhumane acts and irreparable damage.” Underlining the importance of consultations between Iran and Russia on the Middle East, Bogdanov said, “There is no solution to resolve the Syrian crisis other than by holding political dialogue between the Damascus government and opposition groups.”
