Moscow and Tehran are concerned about the politicization of the UN human rights agenda and attempts to use human rights for interfering in the countries’ internal affairs, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Thursday.
According to the ministry, Russian-Iranian consultations on human rights were held in Iran on December 21. During the talks, the sides discussed a wide range of international human rights issues, Sputnik reported.
“Concern was raised over the growing politicization of the UN human rights agenda and attempts to use human rights to interfere in the internal affairs of states,” the statement said.
According to the statement, the two sides also underscored the importance of cooperation and dialogue on human rights both within international and regional organizations, as well as in bilateral format.
