Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani stressed that extremists and terrorists have nothing to do with Islam, noting that western countries use these groups to spread Islamophobia.

“Unfortunately, the creation of such thoughts as those of Daesh [an Arabic acronym for the self-styled Islamic State militant group] in the region has led to misperceptions about Islam in the world,” Larijani said, underlining that terrorist groups play a destructive role in the Muslim world.

“In the current situation, certain western countries are seeking to spoil the image of Islam and create Islamophobia through the instrumental use of terrorists,” he warned, addressing a gathering of clerics and students in a seminary in the holy city of Qom on Thursday, ICANA reported. The speaker reiterated that terrorists’ thoughts have nothing to do with Islam or Islamic schools of thought. Larijani noted that even Sunni Muslims, except for Wahhabis, reject the positions and thoughts held by Daesh and other terrorist groups, adding that such thoughts should not be attributed to Islam.
