A senior foreign policy adviser to the Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei expressed the Islamic Republic’s support for the territorial integrity of Middle East countries and said undermining regional states will help terrorists find a foothold in these states.

Ali Akbar Velayati made the statement on the sidelines of a meeting with French Senate President Gerard Larcher in Tehran on Sunday, Press TV reported.

He said the maintenance of territorial integrity of regional countries was discussed at the meeting.

“We believe that the weakening of regional states could result in the infiltration of terrorism into these countries,” he said.

“Iran and France share common views on battling terrorism and the extremist activities of terrorist groups, including the so-called Islamic State, which is committing crimes in the region.”

Touching on the Syrian crisis, Velayati said Tehran and Paris are in agreement on Syrian issues, adding that they dismiss any military solution to the conflict in the Arab country.
