The foreign ministry has described a UAE minister’s comments on alleged Iran’s interference in the affairs of some Arab countries as “baseless” and “unhelpful”.

An unnamed foreign ministry official said, “Such baseless comments stem from provocations (against Iran) and are in line with the Iranophobia scenario,” the Fars news agency reported on Tuesday. The Arabic-language daily newspaper Al-Balad quoted UAE Minister of State for Foreign Affairs as saying on Sunday that Iran’s “rising influence” and “interference” in Arab countries threaten its relations with the Persian Gulf Arab states.

Addressing attendees at a seminar in Abu Dhabi on strategic dialogue, Anwar Gargash claimed, “Iran interfered in Bahrain, Syria, Iraq, Lebanon and Yemen” and described the policies of Iran as “sectarian” ones.

The Iranian official also said, “Tehran’s foreign policy gives priority to promotion of ties and cooperation with regional states and (Iran) will continue that policy as before.”
