Leader of Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei called on naval forces to further boost capabilities to lead Iran to the deserved global position.

The Leader made the statement in a meeting with navy commanders and officials in Tehran on Sunday, IRNA reported.

Highlighting the significant progress in the naval sector since the victory of the Islamic Revolution in 1979, the Leader said, "Before the Islamic Revolution, the importance of the seas was ignored. But today the navy has made great progress. Nevertheless, it has not yet gained a desirable position."

Ayatollah Khamenei noted that achieving this position is the navy's "great responsibility."

To be able to effectively fulfill its responsibility, the navy needs to recruit "qualified, honest, skilled and active" personnel, the Leader said.

"Good management and [efficient] manpower work miracles. The country's experience of grappling with financial problems over the past few years has taught us that through efficient management, we can overcome shortages and hurdles even with bare hands."

Ayatollah Khamenei called on navy commanders to exploit the potential of seas by helping expand access to the open waters and increase naval cooperation with allies to effectively confront common enemies.
