Security for Arbaeen Pilgrims

Army Commander Brigadier General Ahmad Reza Pourdastan said on Saturday the armed forces are closely monitoring activities at border crossings to Iraq and are ready to respond to any security threat against people traveling to Karbala to attend the annual Arbaeen pilgrimage. Arbaeen, which falls on Dec. 2 this year, is a religious observance that occurs 40 days after Ashura, the day when Imam Hussein (PBUH) and his companions embraced martyrdom at Karbala, Mehr News Agency reported.
