Plan to Build Naval Bases

The navy has prioritized the establishment of well-equipped naval bases on Makran coasts along the Persian Gulf and the Sea of Oman, a senior military official announced on Friday.
“Establishment of equipped operational bases on Makran coasts in southeastern Iran will serve as a prerequisite for the presence of Iran’s warships and destroyers in oceans. The Leader of the Islamic Revolution has presented guidelines in this respect and the navy has also taken measures to create necessary educational, health and military infrastructures in Makran seashore,” Military Operations Advisor to the Navy Commander Rear Admiral Omid Golestani said, Fars News Agency reported.
Golestani also pointed to the presence of naval fleets in international waters and said, “The Iranian Navy has been 99% successful in anti-piracy operations and in escorting cargo and commercial ships in international waters.”
In September, Defense Minister Brigadier General Hossein Dehqan said the development of Makran seashore is a priority for the government, adding that the presence of naval forces in the area guarantees the development of the region.
