Speaker of Serbian National Assembly Maja Gojkovic expressed optimism that the rise in trade exchanges would help boost relations between Iran and Serbia.

Speaking in a press conference on Monday along with Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani, Gojkovic said Tehran and Belgrade have reached an agreement about establishing a joint economic commission, hoping to promote political ties.

In a meeting before the conference, Gojkovic and Larijani discussed “expansion of parliamentary ties, parliamentary friendship groups and joint commissions,” the Serbian speaker said, who is in Tehran for a two-day trip, ICANA reported.

Gojkovic was also scheduled to hold meetings with President Hassan Rouhani, Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, Minister of Industries, Mining and Trade Mohammad Reza Nematzadeh and the head of the Expediency Council’s Center for Strategic Research, Ali Akbar Velayati.

“Developing economic cooperation and increasing scientific, educational, commercial and tourism exchanges are among subjects to be discussed,” she said,

“I will also talk about regional issues with Iranian officials.”

Stressing the importance of Gojkovic’s trip, Larijani said they exchanged views on parliamentary relations and economic cooperation among others.

“Crises in the Middle East and Balkans, global problems, threats posed by terrorists and methods of deal with them were discussed,” he said.

Larijani hoped that this trip would help develop ties and promote common understanding regarding international issues.
