The deputy foreign minister has expressed doubt about the motives behind the US campaign against terrorism in the region, saying Iran deems it “beneath its dignity” to join a “failed coalition,” referring to the US-led coalition against the Islamic State (IS) in Iraq and Syria. Hossein Amir-Abdollahian made the remarks in a meeting with his Dutch counterpart Jeir Tess in Tehran on Monday, the Fars news agency reported. The coalition’s measures not only have not been able to counter IS terrorists, but they have intensified extremism in the region, he said. The Dutch deputy foreign minister highlighted the importance of Iran’s role in developments in Syria and said Tehran can help find a proper solution to the crisis.
