The head of Iran-Hungary parliamentary friendship group held a meeting with Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly of Hungary Janos Latorcai in Tehran on Monday.

In the meeting, MP Seyyed Hossein Naqavi Hosseini referred to the role of parliamentary relations in improving ties between countries and said, "Further talks and consultations between members of parliaments of Iran and Hungary through parliamentary friendship groups and specialized committees play an effective role in promoting bilateral ties," ICANA reported.   

"Iran and Hungary enjoy great economic and cultural potential to enhance their friendly relations," he said, adding, efforts should be made to utilize the potential to serve the interests of the two countries.

Elsewhere, the lawmaker touched on the nuclear talks between Iran and the P5+1 (the five permanent members of the UN Security Council and Germany) and said, "The Majlis backs the nuclear negotiating team and believes that if some P5+1 members adopt a realistic approach and avoid excessive demands, they can manage to reach a comprehensive agreement." Latorcai, for his part, expressed content over his visit to Iran and his talks with Iranian parliamentary and governmental officials and said, "At present, the foreign policy of Hungary necessitates boosting relations with eastern countries; and along this line it seeks expansion of consultations and cooperation with Iran." He added, "With respect to abundant cultural and economic capacities in both countries, there is a good basis to enhance bilateral cooperation in the related fields."
