An unnamed official at the Foreign Ministry rejected the claim that Iran has helped the Taliban militant group.
"Such claims are unfounded," the official said on Wednesday in response to the allegation made by a security official of Afghanistan's Farah Province, Fars News Agency reported.
Stressing Tehran's constructive role in Afghanistan, he said, "The Islamic Republic of Iran has always pursued the policy of backing peace and stability in Afghanistan and the strategy of fighting against extremism and violence."
Iranian officials have always supported the establishment of lasting peace and security in Afghanistan. In relevant remarks in September, Ambassador to the United Nations Gholamali Khoshrou underlined Tehran's determination to do its best to promote peace and calm in neighboring Afghanistan.
"Iran continues its full support for the promotion of security, stability and sustainable development in Afghanistan since we consider the security in Afghanistan to be the security of our borders and the whole region," Khoshrou said in a statement released in the UN Security Council on the situation in Afghanistan.
