A senior military advisor to the Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei criticized western powers for trying to make the region, especially the Persian Gulf, insecure by sending warships and supporting militant groups.

“The most important factor that can create insecurity in the Persian Gulf region is the presence of trans-regional warships and vessels,” Major General Yahya Rahim Safavi said on Saturday in an address to a gathering of Islamic Revolution Guards Corps naval commanders and officers in the southern city of Bushehr, Fars News Agency reported.

Safavi said Iranian armed forces present in the Persian Gulf and the Sea of Oman ensure the security of energy supply routes, emphasizing that Iran “powerfully and firmly seeks to establish sustainable security in the region.”

“We hope that countries on the southern shores of the Persian Gulf and the Islamic Republic of Iran guarantee the stability and security in this important region through cooperation and understanding.”

Safavi stressed that creating terrorist groups to stir tension and undermining regional security are plans devised by the US and other “arrogant” powers.
