Intelligence Minister Mahmoud Alavi said that in the past few months, various terrorist plots have been foiled and terrorist networks have been dismantled.

"Ten members of a terrorist network in the eastern part of the country have been identified and arrested," IRNA quoted Alavi as saying in a press conference on Tuesday.

"The network's members were acting in the provinces of Golestan, Mazandaran, Tehran and Sistan-Baluchestan," he added.

The minister also said 14 people have been arrested in connection with the last month’s terror attack in the town of Safiabad, in Iran’s western province of Khuzestan, of which eight directly participated in the attack.

At least two people lost their lives and two others sustained injuries in an attack by unknown gunmen in Safiabad.

The drive-by shooting happened when masked assailants opened fire on a group of people attending a ritual mourning ceremony for Imam Hussein (PBUH), the grandson of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

The minister also said heavy losses were inflicted on a terrorist group responsible for several attacks in the city of Susangerd, Khuzestan, on November 7. Alavi said amid unrests in some regional states, thanks to God's favor and the efforts of security forces, Iran enjoys sustainable security which has angered its enemies.

"In recent years, they have used their full potential to support terrorists, hoping to undermine Iran's security," he said, adding that despite making huge efforts, they could not succeed.
