President of the European Parliament Martin Schultz underlined that the European Union respects the Iranian model of democracy.
“We respect the Iranian nation’s experience of the type of democracy they have established based on the Islamic logic,” Schultz said in a meeting with Secretary of Iran’s Human Rights Council Mohammad Javad Larijani in Tehran on Sunday, Fars News Agency reported.
“It is the inalienable right of Islamic states and all other cultures in the world to choose their lifestyle. Nations should respect each others’ experiences in life and believe that this variety is a positive point in human life.”
Schultz noted that Islamic and western states cannot convince each other through talks on the correctness of their democratic experiences.
“The correct way is that we come closer as much as possible to the basic principles and human rights commonalities that we all believe in,” he said.
