Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif has said Iran stands by the Palestinian nation in its resistance against Israel. Zarif made the remarks in a meeting with Ramadan Abdullah Shalah, secretary general of the Islamic Jihad Movement in Palestine, in Tehran on Sunday, IRNA reported. The top diplomat said Iran will assist in the process of reconstruction of Gaza that was severely damaged by the Israeli onslaught on the besieged enclave which started on July 8 and ended on August 26 with an Egyptian-brokered truce. Shalah, for his part, thanked the Islamic Republic for its support for the Palestinian people. In a separate meeting with Shalah on Sunday, Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani said Iran strongly supports the “resistance of the oppressed people of Palestine,” adding all Muslim countries should cooperate in the reconstruction of Gaza. “The perseverance of the Islamic resistance of Palestine against the usurping Zionist regime is a source of great pride and honor for Muslims,” he said.
