President Hassan Rouhani has called for increased cooperation between Iran and Armenia and urged the relevant authorities to take measures to remove obstacles to such relations.  

In a meeting with Armenian Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan in Tehran, Rouhani called for more serious steps to help improve bilateral business and economic ties, the website of the presidential office quoted him as saying on Monday.

Rouhani said, "Improved economic ties could secure the interests of both nations," adding that there is a firm resolve between Tehran and Yerevan to promote partnerships and cooperation in various spheres.  Armenian Prime minister earlier met with First Vice President Eshaq Jahangiri.

At a joint press conference after that meeting Jahangiri said Tehran plans to build a hydropower plant in Armenia, IRNA Reported.

He also referred to the current volume of trade between the two states, which stands at 300 million dollars, and said a joint commission will be set up to facilitate promotion of economic ties.
