Pakistan’s National Security Advisor Sartaj Aziz invited Tehran to participate in future Afghanistan peace talks and underlined that Islamabad supports Iran’s role in the region. “Pakistan has invited Iran to take part in the Afghanistan peace negotiations and Islamabad supports Tehran’s role in this regard,” Aziz was quoted as saying by Pakistan’s daily Dawn on Tuesday. Noting that the Afghan government and the Taliban are two sides of peace negotiations, Aziz said they should voice their readiness to resume talks, otherwise third-party mediation would be of no use. Pakistan had earlier facilitated and hosted the first round of peace process between the Afghan government and the militant group, which was later stalled after the death of Taliban leader Mullah Omar.
