Zarif-Mogherini Talks

Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and European Union foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini met in Vienna on Thursday to discuss the latest developments in the Middle East, especially in Syria, and the implementation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action on Tehran’s nuclear program.

The two diplomats were in the Austrian capital for a new round of international talks on the four-year Syrian conflict, IRNA reported. Mogherini highlighted the importance of consultations with Iran on regional issues and said the European Union is ready to cooperate with Tehran to address the situation in the Middle East.

Pointing to the Syria talks, she said, “An opportunity has arisen that all parties sit at the table to launch a political process to settle the crisis gripping the country. The EU backs the process and the campaign against terrorism.”
