The Foreign Ministry denounced as completely unjust a prison sentence for an Iranian national passed by a US court. The US Connecticut District Court on Friday handed down an over eight-year sentence for Mozaffar Khazaei, an Iranian-American, on the accusation that he tried to transfer information on American military aircraft out of the United States. Khazaei was arrested last January after being accused of attempting such transfer. “Unfortunately, a number of our nationals are imprisoned in the US and some other countries for unjustified reasons and over the allegation that they breached the illegal and illegitimate sanctions [against Iran],” Foreign Ministry spokesperson Marzieh Afkham said on Sunday, according to Press TV. She called the US government’s arrest and imprisonment of Iranian citizens on false charges “unacceptable”.
