Iran says the outcome of the recent election in Canada showed that the nation seeks to dissociate itself from “extremist” policies.
“This country’s election which was held yesterday is the reflection and result of the will and resolve of the Canadian people to distance themselves from extremist polices,” Foreign Ministry spokesperson Marzieh Afkham said in an interview with Press TV on Tuesday.
“The Islamic Republic respects the vote and choice of the Canadian people.”
Staunchly pro-Israel Prime Minister Stephen Harper on Monday conceded defeat in the election, stepping down and setting the stage for the appointment of an interim leader.
Harper gave his concession speech following his loss to Liberal Party leader Justin Trudeau.
