A delegation of high-ranking Iranian military officials will visit Moscow at the end of the month, the Russian Defense Ministry said on Friday.

"The program of an upcoming visit of a high-ranking Iranian military delegation to Moscow in late October was discussed, during which a plan on bilateral cooperation for 2016 is set to be agreed," the ministry's press service said in a statement following a Friday meeting between Russian Deputy Defense Minister Anatoly Antonov and his Iranian counterpart Nasrollah Kalantari, Sputnik reported.

During the meeting, the deputy defense ministers discussed implementing an agreement between the two states for a legal framework for military cooperation. The agreement was originally signed during a visit by Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu to Tehran on January 20.

Iran is interested in purchasing Russia-made weapons, including the S-300 missile defense system. In August, an Iranian Defense Ministry source told Sputnik that the delivery of S-300 systems could pave the way for new deals between the countries.

Russia and Iran cooperate in anti-terror efforts. Along with Syria and Iraq, the two countries have established the Baghdad Information Center in the Iraqi capital for coordinating intelligence and security cooperation against Islamic State militants.
