Call for Tehran-Riyadh Rapprochement

German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier called for engagement between Iran and Suadi Arabia to resolve differences.
At a press conference before his upcoming trip to the two countries, Steinmeier said on Thursday that “it’s time for peace efforts between the two regional powers,” IRNA reported.
“Until Iran and Saudi Arabia enter into dialogue, it’s very difficult to bring together all major players of the Middle East to discuss Syria,” he said.
Speaking at the German Parliament on Wednesday, he asked the two countries to help find a political solution for the long Syrian conflict.
“Germany is trying to help settle disputes and to bring all regional bodies under a roof for negotiations,” the minister said.
On the topics of Steinmeier’s talks in Tehran, German Foreign Ministry spokesman Martin Schaefer said, “Nuclear deal, Iran’s regional role, Syria crisis and bilateral ties.”
