In a decree issued on Saturday, Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei appointed three new members to the Supreme Council of the Cultural Revolution.
The SCCR was established in 1984. This council is a powerful body that debates and takes decisions concerning relevant cultural and academic issues.
Among the aims of the organization is to ensure the education and culture in Iran abide by Islamic values and tenets. The president is the ex-officio chairman of the body.
In his decree Ayatollah Khamenei reappointed the current members of the council and appointed Mohammad Baqer Nobakhat, Shahindokht Molaverdi, and Ahmad Vaezi as new members of the council for a three-year period, IRNA reported on Saturday.
Nobakhat is the vice president for planning and strategic supervision and the spokesperson for the administration.
Molaverdi is the vice president for women and family affairs and Vaezi heads the Islamic Propagation Office.
The Leader described the scientific and technological progress of the country as one of "the major priorities" and urged the council to play a serious role in this regard.
