IRGC General Martyred in Syria

Lieutenant General Hossein Hamedani, a senior Islamic Revolution Guards Corps commander, was martyred in Syria, where he was giving military advice to the Syrian army which is engaged in a fight against militants. The IRGC said in a statement carried by Sepah News on Friday that Hamedani was killed by the so-called Islamic State terrorist group on the outskirts of the Syrian city of Aleppo the night before, Press TV reported.  Syria has been gripped by foreign-backed militancy since March 2011. Around 250,000 people have lost their lives and millions have been displaced due to the conflict. Iran has been providing Syria with military advice to assist the Arab country in its anti-terror campaign.  Senior officials, including President Hassan Rouhani and Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani, issued messages of condolences over Hamedani’s martyrdom.
